The PGA Tour returns to TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas with Jordan Spieth as this week's betting favorite as we make our best CJ Cup Byron Nelson picks to win based on the odds from our best golf betting sites.

There are just two weeks to go until the second major of 2024, and there's a rather strong 156-man field competing in this week's CJ Cup Byron Nelson at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas.

Jordan Spieth leads Si Woo Kim and defending tournament champion Jason Day as this week's betting favorite. There's plenty of value further down the board in this top-heavy field as we look at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson odds from our best sports betting sites.

Keep your eyes on the PGA Championship odds this week. It wouldn't be a bad idea to double down with a futures bet on the year's second major with any outright CJ Cup Byron Nelson picks or top finishes.

CJ Cup Byron Nelson picks to win

Seamus Power

Power has logged two career PGA Tour victories to date, with one coming in the 2022 Butterfield Bermuda Championship at a Port Royal Golf Course that's similar to TPC Craig Ranch. This week's field is also only moderately stronger than the ones Power twice bested, and it's drastically weaker than the 2024 RBC Heritage field in when Power finished T-12 two weeks ago.

Though that's his lone top-20 finish of 2024, Power has consistently ended up in the top 40 of much stronger PGA Tour events than this one. He's produced strong iron play in 2024 while also gaining strokes on and around the greens across his last 16 measured rounds.

Power will be playing this event for the fourth straight year following finishes of T-9, T-17, and T-19. He ranks 74th on the PGA Tour in birdie-or-better percentage from 200-plus yards and 67th in bogey avoidance this campaign, both of which are key stats for this venue.

We initially recommended Power at outlier +6000 odds, but we're still fine betting on him at this consensus +5000 number. Check our sites with the best sportsbook promos for any possible boosts to raise these odds.

Nick Dunlap

It's been a rough start to Dunlap's professional golf career after he won January's American Express as an amateur. He's missed the cut in two of his first eight events as a pro, with three other finishes outside of the top 50. His best showing was a T-11 in the Texas Children's Houston Open ahead of the Masters.

But I have hope for Dunlap ahead of his debut at TPC Craig Ranch. The Tom Weiskopf design  is comparable to Pete Dye's La Quinta Country Club, where Dunlap won earlier in 2024.

Despite his struggles this season, Dunlap ranks third on the PGA Tour in birdie-or-percentage from this week's key distance of 200-plus yards. Dunlap's inflated odds this week don't reflect how weak this field is for the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, and he remains No. 72 in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR).

How to bet on golf

When it comes to golf betting, it's essential to understand the various types of wagers available and how to assess player performance effectively. Begin by acquainting yourself with the common bet types, such as outright winners, each-way bets (which encompass both a win and a top finish), head-to-head matchups, and proposition bets tailored to specific tournament events, like hole-in-one occurrences or player performances on designated holes.

Once you've determined your preferred bet types, conduct thorough research on players, course conditions, recent form, and other pertinent factors that could influence outcomes. Delve into player statistics, recent tournament performances, course history, and any injuries or changes in form that may impact a player's chances of success. Armed with this information, you can make well-informed betting decisions and increase your likelihood of success in the realm of golf betting.
